DISCUSSIONS WITH DIAZ: 3RD WORLD CONDITIONS
MAE STAFF WRITER, 9/5/24
Students were recently asked to reflect on their understanding of the living conditions in countries like Venezuela and compare their own lifestyle in America to someone living in a 3rd World country. Here's what Lincoln seniors had to say. If you want to join the conversation, share your thoughts here Discussions With Diaz
"My style of life now is so different that when I was living in Venezuela. I can say that everything that appears in that video is real because to find food and clothes, in Venezuela is difficult, but now I have an Iphone a better school and a better life." Patrick Deshommes
"The lifestyle that I live in today is very different than the conditions that they live in there. I have stuff that they don’t like a car, electronics, food when I want, and running water. I’m very grateful and blessed for this because it could be worse." Jordan House
"It doesn't compare. We are so blessed here in America. We tend to forget how good we actually have it here. They barely have food, money, firmly built homes, freeways and cars. There's no way we compare their lifestyle in Venezuela to our own." Savad Walker
"Many of the problems we have in America don't even come close to what the people in Venezuela have to go through. We as a whole are more pampered and have less fundamental struggles." Olivia Davis
"I feel like the things that we have here are just fine and we're selfish. We want over instead of need things when other countries don't have what we have and are struggling. Here's what I want you to do, take a cold shower, don't eat anything for the rest of the day, and stay off your electronics for one day. Even this is hard for me to do. I can take cold showers and go hours without eating but that doesn't change anything because they have to live like that." King Crumpton
"In America, we might face problems like financial stress, school, or job security, but we usually have better access to basic things like food, clean water, and safety. In contrast, people in 3rd world conditions often struggle with severe shortages of these essentials and live in a very unsafe environment & conditions. Their problems are much worse and more intense; terrible living conditions-lifestyle compared to ours. May God bless their hearts." Myca Cunningham
"My lifestyle problems in America seem like nothing compared to other people's in Venezuela. There family's are starving and living in poverty. After watching these videos I'm realizing the problems I have in my life aren't problems." Ty Olsen
"My lifestyle in America is drastically different from what the conditions are like there. I have things like electronics, a car, food on the table, showers, running waters, bath when I want them, etc. To see how others live in such poverty really puts into perspective how blessed I am to be in the position i am right now."
