FOR THE LOVE OF BASEBALL

The Major League Baseball season is about to enter playoff season. In San Diego this is a big deal because the Padres are on a win streak that could see them in the wildcard spot, or possibly division champions. One fan paying close attention is Lincoln High School baseball player, Elijah Wright.
Elijah loves baseball. He has been playing for LIncoln for 2 years and says he has some great coaches. “They know alot about the game and work with us to make us better.” Last year, the team was so good they got to play a game at the Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.
I asked Elijah about that game and he said, “it was like a dream.” He got to play on the field that his professional idols play on. He also said playing on the field he felt so small, “looking into the stands, even though the stadium wasn't fully filled up, I could still imagine all the fans cheering.”
Lincoln ended up losing the game partly because of the distraction. Elijah said. “I was distracted because I was looking for classmates, friends, and family in the stands.” He ended up getting 0 hits but was on base once and was able to get a steal. Defensively he did much better and was responsible for 3 separate outs from the outfield.
Lincoln ended up losing the game 0-6 but the experience was like no other. Playing at Petco Park, where his favorite team and favorite players play inspired Elijah. The very next game he and his team were locked in and won 5-0.
