12/3/24 - COMPANIONSHIP
My family had a dog named Lucky, who lived with us for five years, but it sadly passed away due to an accident. Someone my family didn’t know fed Lucky food that was poisoned. This happened about six years ago, probably in early 2019, while I was out with some family members like my dad and uncle. I didn’t know about the incident until a few weeks later when I came home.
My family named our dog Lucky because, as the name suggests, we all loved him very much and bought him his favorite treats every day. Lucky was a white dog, given to us by a family friend, and before he died, he had been part of our family for five years. Lucky loved me deeply, and he was also very good at catching mice around the house. About three years after we got Lucky, we adopted another, smaller dog. This new dog was very cute but barked a lot whenever someone came to the house. Although shy, he adored my mother, who always brought food for both dogs.
Lucky, on the other hand, was especially close to me, and I spent much of my free time with him. Unfortunately, there was a sad incident involving his friend, the smaller dog. Just a year after we adopted him, the smaller dog got stuck in a corner of the house, and a heavy object pressed on his neck. He barked a lot, but my grandmother thought he was just barking at someone passing by, so he tragically didn’t survive. Afterward, Lucky was noticeably sad. He no longer played or ran around as he used to; instead, he lay quietly in a corner, looking like he had been crying.
Lucky was a friendly and gentle dog. He would always let his friend eat first, and they would play around the house, watching over our family and greeting delivery people. When Lucky passed away, we built a grave for him quite far from the house, right next to his best friend’s grave. They had always been inseparable, even though the smaller dog was often nervous and barked a lot to show he was “strong.” Lucky always protected him, even once getting into a fight with other dogs to defend him, which left Lucky with serious injuries near his eye and leg. This incident confirmed how deep their friendship was.
When I grow up, I want to care for dogs, especially those in difficult circumstances, and give them good lives. I hope they’ll be my companions because, to me, pets are not only friends but also valuable family members. The loyalty that most dogs show their owners only strengthens my respect and love for them.
