5. DEAD BY DAYLIGHT

Dead by Daylight developed by Behavior Interactive is a multiplayer horror game where one of the players is the killer. If chosen as the killer the player will be able to pick from a variety of different “killers” and they only have one job which is to hunt the survivors. If you are unlucky enough to be a survivor you will have to work with all the other survivors to fix generators and escape which can be done in a variety of ways; escaping on foot, escaping via a car or other vehicles. This game also includes some of your favorite horror mascots from various different games and movies like Jason Vorhees, Freddy Kruger and GhostFace. This game is a great experience with friends and a horrible experience by yourself. With friends the chances of one of you being a killer is higher because you guys are just messing around but alone it can a horrifying experience having to rely on random people you don't know.

4. SILENT HILL 2

Silent Hill 2 developed by “Bloober Team” originally released in 2001. It is a psychological single player horror game following the main character James Sunderland who is looking for his wife. On hi journey he encounters a plethora of different monsters and people. This game was also just recently remastered which came out October 7 2024 the game earning critical acclaim since it stayed true to the original game. This game is one of the greatest single player horror experiences you can have and with the remaster it got more accessible and more polished.  

3. RESIDENT EVIL 7: BIOHAZARD

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a survival horror game released in 2017 it is a single play game that takes place in the home of an infected family. It follows the main character Ethan Winters looking for his wife who went missing in a house where a family now resides this leads Ethan to become “one of the family” where he experience some of the most brutal and disgusting punishments, there is no good way to describe what he went through the best way to find out is to play the game. 

2. OUTLAST 2 

Outlast 2 is a survival single player game released in 2017 developed by Red Barrels that takes place in the Arizona Desert. Outlast 2 was coming off the success and critical acclaim of the original outlast. This game was suspected to be the successor of the original which did do as well but most decided that the first one was better. Even though it isn't as good as the first one it is still one of the best horror games because it still is a outlast game. I don't want to spoil anything because of how shocking it is. It is very similar to the first game but the first one was just done better. 

1. OUTLAST 

The original Outlast released in 2013 developed by Red Barrels. It takes place in an abandoned hospital while it follows journalist Miles Upshur. It is one of the most critically acclaimed horror games of the 2010s. It features some of the most vile, disgusting and horrible experiences and characters and monsters. Its gameplay makes you feel powerless and there is nothing you can do against these monsters or people. I don't want to say much more about this game because the ONLY way to get the full experience is to play this game for yourself and it is well worth the money and time. It is one of the best if not the best horror games because of the way it makes you feel and how horrible the things Miles goes through.
