MAE STAFF WRITER, ALEJANDRO MILLAN, 10/25/24

Horror movies aren't for everyone, but that doesn't mean you cant enjoy a Halloween movie this year. There are several great Halloween movies that are only moderately scary and maybe even considered funny by some. If you're watching movies this Halloween with kids, or just don't want all the blood and guts, here are a few movies you might like.

HUBIE HALLOWEEN

Hubie Halloween it's a a story about Hubie, played by Adam Sandler who grew up in Salem. Hubie is in love with his old crush, played from elementary school, played by Julie Bowen. Despite mockery from kids and adults in the town, Hubie spends halloween protecting the town of Salem from a the strange noises and weird behaviors of a new neighbor. Hubie Halloween is a family friendly alternative for a Halloween night watch.

GOOSEBUMPS

Goosebumps is based on the favorite young adult stories by R.L. Stein. Starring Jack Black as the fictional version of Stine, who teams up with his teenaged daughter (Odeya Rush) to save the world from the monster who have escaped from his books. Slappy the Dummy from Stine's best seller, Night of the Living Dummies, the garden gnome from Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes, a vampire poodle named Fifi from Please Don't Feed the Vampire!, and other monsters can only be recaptured by Stine writing a single story on his supernatural typewriter. Goosebumps is a great choice for families and have you reminiscing about the books you read as a kid.

SCOOBY-DOO

While the cartoon would be a decent choice for the family to watch on Halloween, the Scooby-Doo live action movie is even better. It features the whole Mystery Inc. gang who reunite after two years to investigate a mystery at a horror themed island resort, "Spooky Island." In typical Scooby-Doo fashion, the gang navigates different monsters to uncover the truth behind the Islands haunt. If you want to laugh a little this Halloween, Scooby-Doo is a must watch.
