LINCOLN'S FAVORITE HALLOWEEN CANDY

MAE STAFF WRITER, AYMAR VILLAGOMAZ MARTINEZ, 10/25/24

A recent survey of Lincoln students found that candy is still considered one of the best things about Halloween. If you don't want to be "tricked" this Halloween, make sure to "treat" your guests to the good stuff. Forget the healthy snacks, no one wants a box of raisins, instead stock up on these candies.

1. M&M's

M&Ms are a Halloween classic. The red, green, yellow, orange, brown and blue colored candies are a favorite because, well, they're chocolate. Everybody loves chocolate. (Peanut M&M's are also good).

2. REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS

What is not to love about creamy peanut butter covered by a layer of chocolate. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are also a Halloween classic.

3. KIT KAT

Not as classic as the M&M's and the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, the Kit Kat still scores high for trick or treaters. It's chocolate covering is the perfect match for the crispy wafer inside.

4. SNICKERS

Seeing a trend? Snickers is another chocolate covered treat loved because of it's caramel, nougat, and peanut center. Don't know what a nougat is but it's delicious.

5. SOUR PATCH KIDS

It's not all about chocolate. Trick-or-treaters also love the soft chewiness and sugar coated outsdie of Sour Patch Kids. And of course there's the puckering sour!

6. STARBURST

Another candy enjoyed because of it's chewiness is the Starburst. While the original fruit flavors (strawberry, cherry, orange, and lemon) are still the favorites, any variation (tropical, sour, 'favoreds") are all good.

7. SKITTLES

No trick-or-treater would com0plain about a pack of Skittles in their bag. Skittles are a hard shell candy in a "rainbow" of colors with a chewy and kind of sour core. All the flavors, strawberry, lime, grape, lemon, and orange tastes the same to me, soooo good!

8. CRUNCH

Perhaps the biggest surprise on the list, the CRUNCH bar is another classic chocolate candy. The crunch, of course, comes from the crisped rice infused into the rich Nestlé Swiss chocolate. Its been around since 1938 so you know it's legit.

9. 3 MUSKETEERS

What's unique about the 3 Musketeers chocolate bar is it's filling. Instead of the chewy nougat found in other favorites, the 3 Musketeer bar has a whipped and creamy nougat. It's almost fluffy.

10. TWIX

Rounding out or top ten list is the Twix; a crispy caramel covered wafer inside and a milk chocolate covered outside.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

While these candies didn't make the top ten list, they are still great options for satisfying your costumed guests.
