The regular season has ended and the Hornets have advanced to their 3rd Open-Division playoff appearance. The Hornets are looking to get their second championship win this weekend at Snapdragon stadium. Last year the Hornets fell short in the championship game 26-27 against the Granite Hills Eagles and are looking to redeem themselves.

This year's Hornets team is senior heavy; they have 31 seniors, most of whom played in that championship game last year which means that they are looking for some revenge. Dylon Dunn, a senior on the football team is looking to have a big game this week “I am going to put my all into this game because, that feeling I felt last year, after the loss last year, I cant feel that again. I had nightmares about that game for the longest.” Dylon currently leads the team in tackles racking up a shocking 101 tackles on the season, 2 sacks, 3 ints and 8 TFL’s. This week Dylon is looking to lead the Hornets to victory.

Hornets will be facing their Western League rivals Cathedral Catholic. These two met up earlier this year with Lincoln getting a dominant win over the Dons, the final score was 27-7. Lincoln and Cathedral have had some differences over the years which led to the two playing their last three games at Mira Mesa high school, a neutral field. During the 2021-2022 season, the week leading up to the Lincoln/Cathedral were supposed to face off, Lincoln players and staff came across a social media post displaying a alleged Cathedral student wearing a t-shirt with the logo "Catholics Vs Convicts." This controversy lead to multiple protests and ultimately the Hornets forfeiting the game.

This Saturday's game will definitely be a classic and will be talked about for years to come. It will feature 15 players with D-1 offers so many college scouts will be in attendance. There will also be 3 silver pigskin finalists playing in this game: RB-Aden Jackson, QB-Akilli Smith Jr. and DL-Luke Westfall so all of San Diego will be watching.

Cathedral is a really good team, but the problem is, they’re a young. The Hornets have experience heavy experience. This game is probably going to be a low scoring game because it features the number 1 and number 2 defense’s in San Diego. It may come down to the last drive or the last seconds in the game. It will definitely be close and hard fought. Based on the attitudes of Hornet players this week, it feels like Lincoln is poised to come out on top.
