LINCOLN GIRLS VOLLEYBALL STREAK ENDS
MAE STAFF WRITER, SARIAH SMITH, 11/19/24
The Lincoln Hornets girls volleyball had a great run this season, finishing with a 26-8 season record. They went into playoffs with a 13 game win streak and almost kept it to finish out the season with 4 more wins in the playoffs. But, sadly, they lost in the CIF finals to High Tech Mesa in a close 2-3 match which called an end to their season and to their 16 game win streak.
Despite the loss, the team has a lot to celebrate with some major highlights throughout the season. They won winning the silver division in the Mission Bay tourney this year. Sariah Smith brought home their second tournament win ever with the winning ace against High Tech High to secure their league champ title for the second year in a row. Aminah Wango’olo had the winning kill against Canyon Hills to secure their spot in the final. The team had an impressive 28-8 record and were 10-0 in league, something that should be taken lightly.
But all of this wouldn’t have been possible without Leyahniah Paleafei or Sariah Smith who together had a total of 206 of the teams 389 kills during league or the team's collective total of 1096 kills throughout the whole season. Additionally, Samantha Donlucus led her team with 215 aces (92 for league) and 849 assists (324 during league) throughout the year.
A loss in the finals should not take away from the incredible season they had this year, and everything they achieved. Make sure to be on the lookout for them in the 2025 season where they will be playing in division 3, having moved up from division 4 to face new and tougher competition.
