HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR BOYS SOCCER

MAE STAFF WRITER, EMERSON CARRANZA, 12/2/24

The upcoming 2024-2025 soccer season brings a lot of hope, high expectations, and hard memories. While most teams are simply sharing the schedule for  the season and setting goals for the new season, the Lincoln boys soccer team are starting their season by looking back, analyzing what they could have done better, planning to eliminate the mistakes that hurt the team last year, changing for the better. Considering their rough start this preseason, some soul searching needed to take place.

Last preseason the Hornets ended with only 1 win, 6 losses, and 1 tie. With solid teams scheduled, teams like Morse (D4), Mission Hills (D2), and Madison (D5), the year ended with a lot to be desired, it was bad. The team captains took it upon themselves to motivate the team. Captains, Adrian Acosta and Carlos Ailec advised, "eat healthy and take care of your body," "show up to practice daily," and "be confident."

Players went to work, and worked hard, they wanted revenge for last season. Junior Omar Guizar said, "We want to put ourselves on the map and be proud to call ourselves a team." Many players supported this desire saying, "Winning is the only option," and "We didn't practice all this time for nothing." Lincoln is ready.

The team has a lofty goal of making CIF, bringing the team back to it's dominance.  This dominance starts on Thursday 11/21, at 3pm with a game against O'Farrell Charter High School. Technically this is a home game for the Hornets but because of damage to the field the entire season, practice and everything will happen off site. This creates another unique challenge the team will have to overcome.

Coach Liz and Coach West encourage students, staff, and community members to come out and support the team; a season of all away games is going to be difficult without a fan base encouraging the team. Check Max Preps for the 24-25 season schedule and mark games against Canyon Hills, Mission Bay, High Tech High and against our biggest rivals, Morse off on your calendars, they will be competitive and fun to watch.
